In this follow-up to the award–winning novel, Murder by Manuscript, the setting is late March 2020, and the pandemic is raging. Kit Raines goes missing while photographing the empty streets of Charlotte. Kit’s brother Henry calls his cousin, August Burns, for help. August packs up and roars off on his Indian Chief motorcycle, leaving New York City for North Carolina.

I fell in love with so many of them and would love to see a spin off with one of the others leading too. I can't wait for more of this series! I started thinking about the characters even when I wasn’t reading the book. Steiner has a gentle way of enticing you to dive deeper into her story from both sides of the Atlantic. It was a page turner with enticing, unexpected twists with carefully built-up momentum. The narrative blends stark reality the underground greed of horse racing with the underestimation of the power of the love of animals, particularly horses and the great lengths and sacrifices one will go through to right a wrong. An unexpected murder of a young girls sparks the fury of events with an interesting cast of characters who are brought together in a perfect timing sequence.
